The E-flite P-51D Mustang 1.0m is a “sport scale” replica of the most popular and iconic fighter aircraft ever! Inspired by the original ParkZone “Ferocious Frankie” and “Gunfighter” models and as a taildragger alternative to the extremely popular E-flite T-28 1.1m, it’s designed from the ground up to be a smaller and more affordable alternative to larger “full-house” P-51 models because not everyone is ready for the complexity of flaps and not all fields are suitable for retractable landing gear. But it’s also larger so it’s easier to see and can handle flying in more wind than smaller micro and ultra-micro class models – yet can still be flown at large parks and sports fields while being easy to transport without disassembly. This makes it a perfect first-ever low-wing, scale, and warbird model for low-time pilots who have mastered a trainer and no-hassles everyday sport scale model for experienced pilots. The BNF Basic version is equipped with enhanced AS3X+ technology that smooths out the effects of wind and turbulence better than ever before, and is also equipped with optional-use SAFE Select technology that makes it even easier to fly! And both versions include Spektrum digital, metal-geared servos, a 30A telemetry-capable ESC, plus a 3S and 4S compatible motor.
If you’re a low-time pilot looking for a “next step after a trainer” model and are interested in learning to fly warbirds, or you’re an experienced pilot looking for a no-hassles and fun-to-fly sport scale model, the E-flite P-51D Mustang 1.0m is a perfect choice. Much like the ever-popular and best-selling E-flite T-28 Trojan 1.1m, it’s designed to be a simpler and lower-cost alternative to full-house P-51 models equipped with flaps and retractable landing gear that are typically more complex to operate and difficult to fly. The fixed landing gear with a steerable tailwheel makes it easy to taxi, take off from, and land on smooth surfaces. Or, leave the landing gear off for more speed and vertical performance with easy hand launches over and landings on grass. It’s conveniently sized to be easy to store and transport without disassembly – and so it can be flown at large parks and sports fields as well as RC flying fields. Factory-installed digital and metal-geared servos provide precise and reliable control at every speed. The power system includes a Spektrum outrunner motor and a 30-amp telemetry-capable ESC that are compatible with popular 3S and 4S 1300-2200mAh batteries. And the BNF Basic version is equipped with a factory-installed Spektrum AR631+ receiver featuring exclusive and enhanced AS3X+ along with optional-use SAFE Select and automatic Hand Launch Assist technologies. Plus both versions are factory-finished in the unique “Ferocious Frankie” trim scheme that was used on a Mustang flown by Major Wallace E. Hopkins – an ace credited with 8 victories during World War II.
Skill Level 2 – Next Step After a Trainer aircraft, like this one, are suitable for RC pilots who have successfully learned to fly a trainer model and those with the skills to assemble, set up, and fly similar class models. Although this is one of the easiest to fly P-51 models yet, it’s not a suitable first-ever RC aircraft for new pilots. You should have the experience and skills necessary to successfully fly a trainer model like the HobbyZone AeroScout 1.1m and Carbon Cub 1.3m, or models like the E-flite T-28 Trojan 1.1m, Valiant 1.3m, Turbo Timber Evolution 1.5m and other similar class models before attempting to fly the P-51D Mustang 1.0m BNF Basic version.
The factory-installed brushless power system features a 30-amp telemetry-capable ESC plus a specially tuned motor that delivers an abundance of thrust with a 3S 1300–2200mAh LiPo battery or more speed and unlimited vertical performance with up to a 4S 2200mAh battery without the need for any modifications or upgrades.
The P-51D Mustang 1.0m is equipped with telemetry-capable ESC that can provide a variety of real-time power system related telemetry data including motor RPM, current, battery voltage and more – with Smart and non-Smart batteries – via compatible receivers (including the AR631) and Spektrum AirWare equipped transmitters (including the DX6e and 8e, DX6 G2/3 and 8 G2, the DX9, NX6 to 20, iX12 to 20 and others) while you fly.
No glue is required for final assembly, and you can have the P-51D Mustang 1.0m ready to fly in less time than it takes to charge a battery! And although it's conveniently sized to fit fully assembled in just about any vehicle, you can also remove the one-piece wing equipped with hands-free connections for even easier storage and transport.
You can use the included fixed landing gear – with a steerable tail wheel in the scale location and simulated gear doors/strut covers – to taxi, take off from and land on smooth surfaces. Or you can leave the landing gear off for more speed and vertical performance plus easy hand launches over and landings on grass – especially while utilizing the automatic Hand Launch Assist Mode and SAFE Select featured in the BNF Basic version.
The lightweight yet durable EPO airframe is composite reinforced for added strength. And the factory-installed digital and metal-geared servos deliver crisp and precise control at every speed.
